Plot
Saiyaara follows Vaani Batra, a soft-spoken poet and journalist left heartbroken after being abandoned on her wedding day. Months later she crosses paths with Krish Kapoor, a talented but short-tempered aspiring musician struggling to find his footing in the industry. Drawn to Vaani’s poetry, Krish persuades her to write lyrics for his songs, and their creative partnership gradually turns into a deep romance.
As the two grow closer, their bond is tested when Vaani is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. With her memories beginning to fade, Krish is forced to choose between pursuing his long-awaited musical breakthrough and staying beside Vaani as she loses pieces of the life they built together. The story builds toward Krish discovering Vaani’s diary containing the words to the song “Saiyaara,” which he records in her memory and releases to the world, bringing him the recognition he had long chased while reconciling with his estranged band.
Main Cast and Characters
Ahaan Panday as Krish Kapoor: Krish is an emotionally volatile, passionate musician chasing success while wrestling with his own insecurities. His arc centres on learning to put love and loyalty ahead of ambition as his relationship with Vaani deepens.
Aneet Padda as Vaani Batra: Vaani is a gentle, introspective poet-journalist still healing from a broken engagement. Her diagnosis with early-onset Alzheimer’s becomes the emotional core of the film, as she and Krish confront the slow erasure of shared memory.
Rajesh Kumar as Mr. Batra: Vaani’s father, whose presence anchors the family dynamic surrounding her illness.
Geeta Agrawal Sharma as Mrs. Batra: Vaani’s mother, who shares in the family’s emotional journey as her daughter’s condition progresses.
Varun Badola as Ashok Kapoor: Krish’s father, offering insight into the musician’s troubled upbringing and temperament.
Anngad Raaj as Rudransh “Rudy” Batra: Vaani’s younger brother, part of the Batra family’s support system.
Production, Creative and Technical Aspects
Development and Story
Saiyaara was written by Sankalp Sadanah with dialogues by Rohan Shankar, and directed by Mohit Suri, known for his work in the romantic-drama genre. The project was developed as an original story centred on music, memory and loss rather than as part of an existing franchise.
Casting
Yash Raj Films cast two newcomers, Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, in the lead roles. Reports noted that director Mohit Suri wanted a female lead who had not undergone cosmetic procedures, in keeping with the grounded, natural tone he wanted for Vaani’s character. The supporting cast included Rajesh Kumar, Geeta Agrawal Sharma, Varun Badola, Shaad Randhawa and Anngad Raaj.
Filming and Locations
Principal photography began in September 2024 and wrapped in March 2025, with filming taking place in Mumbai, Goa, Manali and Alibag. These locations shaped the film’s mix of urban music-industry settings and more intimate, scenic backdrops for the central romance.
Production Company
Saiyaara was produced by Akshaye Widhani under the Yash Raj Films banner, which also handled its distribution. The film notably received relatively limited pre-release promotion compared to other major 2025 releases, which made its eventual box office run more unexpected within the industry.
Music
The soundtrack was composed by Faheem Abdullah, Tanishk Bagchi and the duo Sachet–Parampara, blending melodic romantic numbers with more intense compositions that mirror the story’s emotional shifts between joy, heartbreak and loss. Music plays a central narrative role in the film, since the title track itself becomes a plot device tied to Krish and Vaani’s relationship.
Cinematography and Editing
Vikas Sivaraman served as cinematographer, while Devendra Murdeshwar and Rohit Makwana handled the editing. The visual style leans into soft, intimate framing for the romantic sequences, while editing choices support the film’s emotional pacing as it moves between the couple’s creative collaboration and the harder realities of Vaani’s diagnosis.

Opening and Early Run
Tracking services differ on Saiyaara’s opening-day numbers, with some reporting a modest start of around ₹5.6 crore net in India and others citing figures above ₹20 crore; the variation reflects differing counting methodologies across trade portals. What is consistent across reports is that the film built momentum through its first weekend and continued growing on strong word of mouth rather than a big promotional push.
India and Overseas Performance
By the end of its theatrical run, Saiyaara’s India net collection was reported at around ₹329.7 crore, with an India gross figure of roughly ₹398.8 crore. Overseas, the film earned approximately ₹171.5 crore, making it, according to Yash Raj Films, the highest-grossing Indian love story at the international box office, surpassing Mohanlal’s Empuraan in overseas collections.
Worldwide Collection
Combining domestic and international earnings, Saiyaara’s worldwide gross has been placed in the ₹570–579 crore range by various trackers, making it the second highest-grossing Indian film of 2025 behind Chhaava, and the third highest-grossing Hindi film of the year overall — a striking outcome for a film led entirely by first-time actors.

Critical and Audience Response
Saiyaara received largely positive reviews on release, with particular praise directed at Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda’s performances, the film’s soundtrack, and its emotional handling of memory loss. Some critics were more measured in their assessment of the screenplay, reflected in a more moderate aggregate critics’ score compared to its strong audience reception and box office performance. Discussions among viewers frequently centred on the chemistry between the two debutants and the film’s music, particularly the title track.
Where to Watch Saiyaara
Saiyaara completed its theatrical run in Indian cinemas following its 18 July 2025 release. It is now available to stream on Netflix, where it premiered on 12 September 2025. Viewers can search for the film directly on Netflix to watch it, as its theatrical availability has since ended in most markets.
Is Saiyaara Worth Watching?
Saiyaara is worth considering for viewers who enjoy emotionally driven musical romances built around memory, loss and second chances. The film’s biggest draws are the performances of debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda and a soundtrack that plays an active role in the story itself. Its handling of early-onset Alzheimer’s disease adds a layer of emotional weight uncommon in mainstream Hindi romances. Viewers looking for a conventional feel-good love story may find the film’s final stretch heavier than expected, but its combination of music, chemistry and emotional stakes helped it become one of the standout box office successes of 2025.
