Prabhas Career Phases at a Glance
| Phase | Years | Key Films | Pattern |
| Debut and early hits | 2002–2006 | Eeswar, Varsham, Chatrapathi | Rise from newcomer to mass hero |
| Action and romance | 2007–2011 | Yogi, Billa, Darling, Mr. Perfect | Mixed results, then two hits |

| Baahubali era | 2015–2017 | Baahubali: The Beginning, Baahubali 2 | National and global stardom |
| Pan-India pressure | 2019–2023 | Saaho, Radhe Shyam, Adipurush | Huge budgets and mixed returns |
| Comeback | 2023–2024 | Salaar, Kalki 2898 AD | Two big hits, one ₹1,000 Cr film |
| Cameos and new projects | 2025–2026 | Kannappa, Mirai, The Raja Saab | Guest roles and one big disappointment |
Looking at these phases, Prabhas has never made more than two films in a year, and in many years he released only one. His gap between films became longer after Baahubali because each pan-India project needs years of shooting, visual effects work and promotion. Even so, his films continue to open with some of the biggest numbers in India, and that is why producers still invest ₹300 Cr or more in a Prabhas project. For fans and film writers, the Prabhas filmography is a clear example of how one role can change the scale of an entire career.

Biggest Films Explained
Chatrapathi (2005). Directed by S. S. Rajamouli, this action drama was Prabhas’s first major mass hit. He played Sivaji, a refugee who rises against the goons exploiting his people, and the film earned him a second Filmfare nomination for Best Actor – Telugu. It also started the long partnership between Prabhas and Rajamouli that later produced Baahubali.
Mirchi (2013). A family action film directed by Koratala Siva, Mirchi showed Prabhas in a stylish and emotional role as Jai. It was a big commercial success, earned about ₹85 Cr, and won him the Nandi Award for Best Actor. For many fans it is the film that brought back his “Darling” charm before Baahubali.
Baahubali: The Beginning and The Conclusion (2015, 2017). Prabhas played the dual roles of Amarendra Baahubali and Mahendra Baahubali, and he gave nearly five years to the two films. The first part grossed about ₹650 Cr, and the second grossed about ₹1,810 Cr, making Prabhas the first Indian actor with a ₹1,000 Cr film. The duology turned him from a Telugu star into a national and international name.
Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire (2023). After two big failures, Prabhas returned to a mass action role in Prashanth Neel’s violent drama. With a budget of about ₹270 Cr, the film grossed about ₹620 Cr and brought back audience trust in his action image. The sequel, Salaar: Part 2 – Shouryaanga Parvam, is still waiting for a start date.
Kalki 2898 AD (2024). Directed by Nag Ashwin, this sci-fi epic mixes the Mahabharata with a post-apocalyptic world. Prabhas played Bhairava and Karna beside Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and Deepika Padukone. With a reported budget of ₹600 Cr, it grossed over ₹1,100 Cr and became his second film in the ₹1,000 Cr club.
Prabhas Biggest Disappointments Explained
Saaho (2019). The first big film after Baahubali had a huge opening and a budget of about ₹350 Cr, but reviews were mostly negative. The Hindi version did well, with strong numbers in the north, while the Telugu version underperformed. It still earned about ₹439 Cr worldwide.
Radhe Shyam (2022). This romantic drama with Pooja Hegde was made on a very large budget but earned only about ₹149 Cr. It was one of the biggest losses in Telugu cinema, and it showed that Prabhas’s non-action films struggled outside the Telugu states.
Adipurush (2023). Om Raut’s retelling of the Ramayana, with Prabhas as Raghava, faced heavy criticism for its dialogues and visual effects. Despite a reported budget of about ₹500 Cr and a gross of about ₹393 Cr, it was declared a commercial failure.
The Raja Saab (2026). Maruthi’s horror comedy had a big opening of ₹53.75 Cr net in India on day one, but poor reviews and word of mouth caused a steep fall. It ended with about ₹208 Cr gross worldwide against a reported budget of ₹300 to ₹400 Cr, making it one of the biggest disappointments of 2026.
Prabhas Early Hits Explained
Varsham (2004). Directed by Sobhan and co-starring Trisha, this romantic action film was Prabhas’s first commercially successful film. He played Venkat, a young man whose love story is threatened by a powerful villain, and the music of the film became hugely popular. It earned him his first Filmfare nomination and is still one of the most loved films of his early career, which is why it returned to theatres in May 2025.
Darling (2010). Directed by A. Karunakaran, this romantic comedy with Kajal Aggarwal showed a softer and more playful side of Prabhas. After several action films that did not meet expectations, Darling gave him a clean hit and the nickname that his fans still use. It earned about ₹45 Cr against a budget of about ₹20 Cr.
Mr. Perfect (2011). Directed by Dasaradh, this family romantic drama had Prabhas as Vicky, a workaholic who learns the value of love and family. Kajal Aggarwal and Taapsee Pannu played the heroines, and the film grossed about ₹55 Cr. It was re-released in October 2024 and again drew big crowds.
Billa (2009). A stylish remake directed by Meher Ramesh, Billa gave Prabhas a dual role as David Billa and Ranga. The film did not meet commercial expectations because of its high cost, but it is remembered for its look and for the Prabhas and Anushka Shetty pairing that later worked again in Mirchi and Baahubali.
Rebel (2012). Directed by Raghava Lawrence, this action film had Prabhas as Rishi, also called Rebel. It received mixed reviews and underperformed at the box office, but it gave him the nickname “Rebel Star” that is still used by the media and fans.
Prabhas Budget vs Box Office

How Prabhas’s Career Changed After Baahubali
Before Baahubali, Prabhas was a popular Telugu hero who released one or two films a year with budgets between ₹10 Cr and ₹40 Cr. The duology changed everything. He gave nearly five years of his career to the two films and refused other projects during that time, a decision that was widely discussed in the media. When Baahubali 2 released in 2017, it became the highest-grossing Indian film of its time, and his audience suddenly included viewers in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and overseas markets.
After that success, his films were planned as pan-India releases with budgets of ₹300 Cr and above, usually shot in Telugu and Hindi. This brought huge openings but also huge pressure. Saaho, Radhe Shyam and Adipurush earned large amounts but could not match their costs, and the gap between his big openings and weak long-term runs became a regular topic in trade circles. The comeback came with Salaar and Kalki 2898 AD, both of which returned to the strengths that made him a star: strong mass action and large-scale spectacle. His filmography shows that his biggest hits come from action and epic films rather than romantic dramas or comedies, which is why his upcoming films Spirit and Fauzi are both serious and intense.

From Telugu Star to Pan-India Rebel: The Story Behind Prabhas’s Filmography
Prabhas filmography is the story of an actor who grew from a Telugu mass hero into India’s first pan-India star. He started with Eeswar in 2002, found his first big hit in Varsham (2004) and became a mass favourite with Chatrapathi (2005). Between 2006 and 2009 several films did not meet expectations, but Darling, Mr. Perfect and Mirchi rebuilt his image as the romantic and stylish “Darling” hero. Then came Baahubali, a project that took five years of his career and made him a household name across India. After the ₹1,810 Cr success of Baahubali 2, he chose big-budget pan-India films, and the results were mixed: Saaho did well in Hindi, Radhe Shyam and Adipurush failed, and Salaar and Kalki 2898 AD became huge hits. In 2026 The Raja Saab disappointed at the box office, but the lineup of Fauzi, Spirit and Kalki 2898 AD: Part 2 keeps expectations high.
