Plot

Dupahiya Season 2 picks up after the events of the first season and takes viewers back to Dhadakpur, a village once proud of being India’s only crime-free village. At the end of Season 1, the villagers were made to realise that Dhadakpur had never really been crime-free, because social evils such as dowry were already present in the community. Season 2 begins in that changed atmosphere, where the village’s image is no longer spotless.

The new chaos begins when a mobile tower is installed on Banwari’s barren land. The villagers soon blame the tower for everything, from sudden illnesses to natural disasters, and a simple piece of infrastructure turns into a village-wide panic. At the same time, Roshni has only seven days left to prepare for her SSC exam, which adds personal pressure to the family’s already messy situation.

Another thread follows police officer Mithilesh Kushwaha, played by Yashpal Sharma, who learns about a paper leak racket and decides to investigate. This links the comedy with a timely social issue. Elsewhere, Bhugol becomes famous as a female influencer on social media, which adds a fresh, modern layer to the village’s gossip-driven world.

The series keeps the mix of comedy and mystery from Season 1, with the Jha family at the centre. It continues to use humour to talk about family relationships, village politics, education and everyday struggles.

Production, Creative and Technical Aspects

Development and Story

Prime Video and Bombay Film Cartel began developing the second season in March 2025, shortly after the first season earned widespread appreciation for its wholesome family viewing. The new season was announced for 1 October 2026, a little over a year after the first. The writers take the story forward from the first season’s ending and add newer problems that reflect modern village life, from mobile networks to social media fame and exam paper leaks.

Direction

Sonam Nair returns as director and keeps Dhadakpur looking warm and lived-in, with dusty roads, familiar faces and everyday madness. She has said the series holds a special place in her heart and has also hinted that the story could continue into further seasons if audiences respond well.

Casting

The full main cast returns, which gives the season a comfortable, familiar feel. Nirahua’s addition brings a popular Bhojpuri name into the series and suits its rural setting. The performances are widely seen as the show’s biggest strength.

Setting and Look

The fictional village of Dhadakpur is nicknamed the “Belgium of Bihar” in the series, and its gossip-heavy, close-knit setting gives the writers plenty of room for comic situations. The series is an original story and is not based on real events.

Editing

Chandrashekhar Prajapati handled the editing, which has been described as neat and helpful in juggling the season’s many storylines.

Critics Reviews and Overall Reception

The overall response is positive but moderate. Some reviewers say the second season expands the world with more confidence and sharper humour, while others feel it is less funny than the first season and suffers from too many storylines. The recurring praise goes to the quirky characters, grounded setting and ensemble acting. The recurring criticism is about inconsistent humour, predictable stretches and a crowded screenplay.

The paper leak track has been appreciated for adding a timely social angle. Reviews generally agree that the season falls a notch below Season 1 in consistency and wit, but still makes for an engaging watch.

Season 1 Reception

The first season was praised for its clean, socially relevant family entertainment and was often compared to the simple comedies of earlier decades and to the village-comedy genre popularised by recent OTT shows. It earned strong critical response, which led to the quick renewal for a second season.

Is Dupahiya Season 2 Worth Watching?

Dupahiya Season 2 is worth watching for fans of the first season and for viewers who enjoy light village comedies with a social message. Its strengths are the ensemble cast, the quirky humour, the relatable family moments and a topical story that touches on exam paper leaks and the pressure of social media. It keeps the same easy charm that made the original show a family favourite.

Viewers expecting the sharp focus of Season 1 may find this season slightly uneven, as several storylines run together and some jokes land better than others. Watching Season 1 first is recommended, since the new season builds directly on its ending. Overall, it is a pleasant, easy weekend binge.
